Logos 101: Beginner’s Guide to Squarespace Logos

Squarespace has made building a business or organization and a brand even easier. When starting a website there are so many things to think about and Squarespace has made the process just a little easier. Built into Squarespace is now the ability to make logos. You do not need to hire a graphic designer; you just need a little imagination and Squarespace Logo.

For those with a Squarespace 7.1 account you can create and download high-resolution logos for free. It does not matter what pricing plan you have in Squarespace. Be sure to read the usage terms for the Squarespace Logo icons as the icon library is from an integration with the Noun Project, a community of global designers. The license may vary by logo so you will want to read it.

How to use the logos you create

Logos created in Squarespace can be used as a site logo for your website. You can use the logo in the header/footer and in the body of the website. You can also use your new logo for your Favicon or browser icon. This is the small picture beside your page’s title in the browser tab.

To begin your Logo Project, go to Squarespace Logo. This site walks you through how to create a logo. If you are familiar with Squarespace this will be very similar to what you already use in building and updating a website.

1.     Enter business name.

A business card will appear on the screen and you enter your business name whatever way you want it to be seen. You can use all caps, all lower-case letters or a mixture of upper case and lower-case letters.

2.     Choose an icon or symbol.

There are many icons and symbols on the left-hand side displayed for you to choose. By changing the icons, you can visually see what looks best for your brand.

To the right of the Squarespace Icon in the upper left-hand corner is a circle with a question mark inside. Clicking on that icon will show keyboard shortcuts for logo design. There are shortcuts for Undo and Redo. You may want to use these shortcuts along with others as you begin to make changes to the text and icon.

Now it is time to have fun with the colors and fonts.

1.      Click on the name text box and a bar will appear on the top of your screen to change the font, font color, font size, and style of font. Make as many changes as you want until you are pleased with the product.

2.     Click on the shape to have a similar bar appear to change the icon color, inside/fill color, and the width of the shape.

3.     By clicking on the name or shape you can reposition or increase/decrease in size.

Once you are happy with your new logo you can click Save Logo at the bottom left-hand corner. You will have your choice to upload all versions or to choose one color, white, or black. It would probably be best to upload them all so you can use what looks best in your design.

Be sure to save the email you receive from Squarespace with the subject “Here’s your new logo!”  The email has a permanent link so that you may return to your logo, edit and re-download at any time. Flag this email for future use.

As always, Squarespace is available to help if you encounter any issues regarding creating a logo. Chat is available during the weekdays and email support is available 24/7.

Have fun and enjoy creating a brand for your business or organization.
