I have spent the last 15 years volunteering and working with non-profit organizations. In that time, I not only realized how important it is to have a web presence but how hard and clunky some of the sites were to use and update. I tried to find easier ways to keep all the information fresh and new without having to spend time and money waiting for other people to update the website. After using other platforms, I found Squarespace five years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed resurrecting older websites and building new ones. The most important part is giving others ownership and teaching them how to make updates to their website on their own.

Why I like the Squarespace platform:

1.      Easy to maintain and update

Once you learn how to make updates and changes to your site, minor changes become a breeze. It took me a few tries on my own, reading the guides and watching videos in the help section of Squarespace. Once you understand how to use the site each of the pages is designed in the same way. You can even update fonts or change all the colors daily using the color palette. Most importantly, the cost of yearly hosting for the Squarespace website and the domain are very reasonable.

2.     Self-contained platform

Everything needed to create a professional looking website package is included and most importantly, supported. Best of all, it looks good on all devices. I love that the Squarespace platform contains all the elements I need and more that all work together perfectly. No updating or maintaining plugins, widgets, etc.

3.     No coding required

You do not need to know any special computer coding to make updates and changes to your website. All changes can be updated in a user-friendly format. I did not go to the school for coding or take any classes but can design a professional looking website.

4.     Customer support

I have used both the chat and e-mail functions and have been incredibly happy. During the week, Monday-Friday, “chat” is available, and they offer 24/7 email that is very responsive at any time. At times when it is a complex question the support person will go into my site and create a step-by-step video of what I need to do. I watch the video and learn by doing it myself.

Teaching clients to use their website:

While I was setting up my business, the most important part I wanted clients and prospective clients to know is that I will build their website and teach them how to use it. The teaching part is the most critical part I want the client to remember. I will build a professional looking website and show them how to make the necessary changes. Plus, they would have Squarespace support for further information.
