Contributors to your website allow you to manage rolls and permissions FOR your website. Each Squarespace website has an owner who has full access to the website. Squarespace allows owners to invite contributors and basic authors to their website and give them access accordingly.

Only owners and those granted rights as administrators by the owner can add contributors or basic authors. Contributors or basic authors can be removed by the owner of the website, or they can remove themselves from the website at any time.

Home Page > Settings > Permissions

In this section you can invite a contributor or basic author and give access to each individual contributor. You may also add basic authors who add or edit content but do not have sign in credentials.

Contributor

The personal pricing plan for Squarespace allows for one additional contributor. The Business, Basic Commerce, and Advanced Commerce plans allow for unlimited contributors to the website.

Click on the Invite Contributor button.

In this area you start by adding the Contributor name and their email address. A separate screen will open where you may toggle on different access roles.

The access privileges that may be granted are:

  1. Administrator - Full access to the website but they cannot transfer ownership.

  2. Billing - This person can buy or change website plans. They do not have access to Google Workspace or the domain.

  3. Content Editor - May only edit the content on the website.

  4. Analytics - May view the analytics of the website and commerce section of the website.

  5. Comment Moderator - Allowed to comment on the website and edit other’s comments to the website.

  6. Trusted Commenter - Comments do not have to be reviewed to appear on the website.

  7. Store Manager - Order, edit content, and receive store notifications.

  8. Scheduling Editor - Allowed to view and manage appointments for the schedule.

All or one toggle may be selected based on the role you give the specific Contributor.

Basic Author

Click the Add Basic Author button.

In this area you start off by adding a picture of the Author. Add the display name, the name associated with that specific content. In their profile information add their first and last name, a URL address, and a Bio about the Author.

This person may write content on the website but does not have sign in credentials. In Version 7.1 Basic Authors can be used on Blog post pages and Events pages.

Once one or more Contributors and/or Basic Authors are added to the website you may go to the Home Page > Settings > Permissions section to see detailed information about each person’s settings and make necessary changes.

As your business or nonprofit organization grows and changes you may have to add different people to seperate roles. Squarespace allows you to add those important people but still grant access to what they may do within the website. Good luck!
