Keeping your Website Fresh and New
One thing I always talk about is keeping your website fresh and new. Don’t create a website just to have it sit. A user-friendly website allows you to make changes to keep your website vibrant and keep visitors coming back.
Businesses and nonprofits are ever changing. New people are coming onboard, and events occur. Make sure you post pictures of new faces and events. Let visitors know who you are, what you have done and what you will do with an up-to-date website.
I call websites that list your general information a brochure website. It’s like a brochure you would hand out but online so anyone can see it. This type of website needs to be kept updated as well. When people come to your website they are looking to see if you are a professional organization that they can entrust. Let them see you care about what you are offering - whether it be a business or an idea.
Treat a website like a brick and mortar store. You have to move items around, dust and clean every so often. A website is the same. You can keep the same pictures or videos but maybe move them around on the page, change the font or the colors. Enjoy your website and showcase the best of your business or organization.
How do I keep everything updated?
Squarespace websites are user friendly. I first used this platform five years ago and loved how easy it was to keep updated. I stumbled through setting up my first website and over the years have altered it completely. The main areas you want to keep updates:
Content - Every so often read what is there. Ask yourself if you are still offering this service or is this still an idea your organization believes in. As time moves on your business or organization may move in different directions and you want your website to be a reflection of that idea.
Images and Videos - Make sure to keep your pictures updated so when a visitor clicks on your website, they see current pictures and videos. Make sure to keep a gallery of past events as well.
Contact Information - It’s very important to have updated numbers or email addresses so that if a visitor would want to speak with you they can easily begin that contact.
Why do I need to update my website?
Before a potential client or member reaches out to your business or organization they may want to compare. Many times, they are looking on their phone during a few minutes break from their day or late at night. So, everything you would want to convey to that person needs to be displayed on your website in an easy way that guides the person around.
