Squarespace Basics: All about Domains

What is a domain?

The domain is the name of a website. It is a URL or web address used to find your website. By creating a custom domain, you give your website a professional look and make it easy for visitors to find.

Domains in Squarespace can be:

  • Purchased in Squarespace

  • Transferred into Squarespace from another host

  • Hosted elsewhere and connected/pointed to your domain to Squarespace

Squarespace provides website hosting and domain hosting.

Website Hosting

When you create a website on the Squarespace platform you pay Squarespace to display your content. You use Squarespace to create and manage your website.

Domain Hosting

Domains can be purchased through Squarespace, transferred to Squarespace, or connected from a different host. Domains are a www. addresses that visitors use to find your website.

Finding a Domain

Where do you find information on Domains in Squarespace?

Home Menu > Settings > Domains

Click Get a Domain.

The domain is the name extension used for a URL in order to categorize them. There are a number of these extensions to choose from including .com, .org, .net, etc. Domains typically cost between $20 and $70 through Squarespace.

Purchasing a domain in Squarespace or purchasing outside of Squarespace is fine. Depending on where you purchased you will have it included in Squarespace or will have to point it to the Squarespace platform. Squarespace makes both ways just as easy.
