Squarespace Basics: Inviting a Contributor

Inviting others to add content to your website may be helpful. As a website designer I build a website and invite the client to be a contributor to the website so they can view the website and take time to look through it and come up with any changes that may be made. For many businesses and nonprofit organizations contributors may be added so different people can be responsible for various section(s) of the website.

There are two options when choosing people to add content to your website. If you need someone to add blog posts and events, you may choose a Basic Author. A contributor may be assigned to one specific area or as an administrator with the same credentials as an owner, although an administrator cannot transfer a website like the owner. Unlike a Basic Author, a Contributor is invited to the website and creates an account to sign in. A Basic Author has a profile and each time they add a blog post or an event their name is added to that specific content, so others know who added the information.

How to add a Contributor:

Home Menu/Settings/Permissions

Choose the Invite Contributor button

This will open a block about the Contributor.

  1. Add the Contributors name.

  2. Add the Contributors email address.

  3. Click the toggles to make the Contributor an administrator to the website (giving them full access except that they cannot transfer the website) or click the toggles to specifically give the Contributor access to different areas of the website.

The owner may change the Contributors permissions or remove them at any time.

Change Contributors Permissions:

Home Menu/Settings/Permissions. Click on the Contributors name and change the toggles to reflect the updated permissions.

Remove Contributors:

Home Menu/Settings/Permissions. Click on the Contributors name and then the three dots on the upper right to Remove Contributor.

May Web Design, LLC refreshes and creates affordable websites that enable clients to take ownership and update themselves on a Squarespace platform. I enjoy helping clients increase customer engagement with a website and improve their overall web presence. The most important part of my business is that when I have completed and reviewed the website with a client, I teach the client how to update their website so that they can keep it fresh and new. A website offers a 24/7 welcome to prospective members, showing them what your business or organization has accomplished and what you plan to do. If built correctly it should welcome people to the site and show them around in a comfortable way.

If you are interested in discussing the needs of a website for your business or nonprofit organization, contact May Web Design, LLC. Starting out with a basic brochure website may be all that your business or organization needs. Your website should grow with you and change as needed.
