Squarespace Basics: Image Shapes

I love this new addition to Image Blocks in Squarespace. You can now upload a picture and drop it in an image shape. Try many different shapes until you find what looks the best for your website needs. There is so much variety in the shapes and they can be added to any image block layout.

Image Shapes

Images do not have to be square or rectangular anymore. There are choices … and lots of choices. Before now I used Canva to change the outline of a picture. It was easy but it’s so much easier now that I can make these changes in Squarespace.

  1. Start on an image block and click to edit.

  2. Choose the Design tab.

  3. Click on the Shape option and below that click on the Shape selector.

  4. Choose an Aspect Ratio. This is the proportion between the height and width of an image. There is a great article in the Knowledge Base of Squarespace that goes into detail. Understanding aspect ratios.

Focal Point

Images have a built in feature that centers the picture. But what if the image is off center or what if you want to emphasize something that is not the true center of the picture? Easy, change the focal point.

  1. Open the image

  2. Hover over the image until a circle appears showing where the built in focal feature would be.

  3. Click on the circle and drag to another place on the picture. This area now appears as the center of your picture.

These additional Image Shapes are new to Squarespace. I love customizing each picture and this is a great tool located in the design process. Try it and see how it works.

May Web Design, LLC refreshes and creates affordable websites that enable clients to take ownership and update themselves on a Squarespace platform. I enjoy helping clients increase customer engagement with a website and improve their overall web presence. The most important part of my business is that when I have completed and reviewed the website with a client, I teach the client how to update their website so that they can keep it fresh and new. A website offers a 24/7 welcome to prospective members, showing them what your business or organization has accomplished and what you plan to do. If built correctly it should welcome people to the site and show them around in a comfortable way.

If you are interested in discussing the needs of a website for your business or nonprofit organization contact May Web Design, LLC. Starting out with a basic brochure website may be all that your business or organization needs. Your website should grow with you and change as needed.
