How to carry a color scheme across your website, marketing, and social media
When you create a brand, you create an image for your small business or nonprofit organization. That brand is usually made of a logo, colors, and specific fonts.
I have written two blogs that show the importance of branding and a color palette for your website:
Website Basics: Color Palette and It’s all about the branding!
I show the importance of wanting the visitor to your website to know the name of your business and visually see a logo and/or the colors of your business. These items identify you to your clients or membership.
Logos are easy to upload into different formats and carry across your social media channels. Fonts are similarly easy to showcase in different platforms. BUT…colors…
How do you make sure that colors are the same across your social media? It doesn’t sound hard until you try to match a color. For instance, I have navy blue as one of my business colors. Take a look at a color wheel and you will realize just how many shades of navy blues are out there? A lot!!
I google Color Conversion and use free online tools to translate colors into different color codes. You simply key in the color you do have, and it will convert to another color code in a different format.
Codes most commonly used:
Hex
RGB
HSV
HSL
What color do you have in Squarespace? Well, here is how you find out…
Home Menu/Design/Site Styles/Colors
You can click on your color palette to find a code. This is the code for my navy blue.
As you can see, this is an hsl code. This code can be keyed into the HSL section of a conversion chart to find out what this color code would translate into another code format.
Why is this important?
I use marketing tools, like Canva, and they take the Hex#. I want to carry the same colors across my marketing tools, so I make sure I key in the exact Hex# that translates into my Squarespace colors.
Squarespace color match is a great tool to use too.
Home Menu/Design/Site Styles/Colors
Click on From Image and simply upload an image. Squarespace will match the colors and give you a color palette to use. Of course, you can change any of the colors BUT you do not have to start from scratch. Good luck!
May Web Design, LLC refreshes and creates affordable websites that enable clients to take ownership and update themselves on a Squarespace platform. I enjoy helping clients increase customer engagement with a website and improve their overall web presence. The most important part of my business is that when I have completed and reviewed the website with a client, I teach the client how to update their website so that they can keep it fresh and new. A website offers a 24/7 welcome to prospective members, showing them what your business or organization has accomplished and what you plan to do. If built correctly it should welcome people to the site and show them around in a comfortable way.
If you are interested in discussing the needs of a website for your business or nonprofit organization contact May Web Design, LLC. Starting out with a basic brochure website may be all that your business or organization needs. Your website should grow with you and change as needed.
