CTA and your Website

What is a CTA?

CTA stands for Call To Action. This is a marketing term calling for an immediate response. In regards to websites, it means that someone has come to your website and wants to find out more information on take the next step.

Where do you use a CTA?

You can use a CTA on any website. It’s normally a button that the visitor to website can click on to get in touch with you. The visitor has taken the first step in contacting your business or nonprofit.

I wrote a blog earlier this year entitled Button Basics in Squarespace 7.1. I outlined how to add buttons to your website and briefly discussed the Call To Action.

There are many ways that you can enable your CTA button in Squarespace for the visitor to learn more or contact you for further information:

  • Page - link a page from your website

  • Web Address - link an external website

  • File - link external content

  • Email - link the button to an email address which will populate in a new email

  • Phone - link the button to a phone number

As you can see there are many ways to use these CTA’s. It’s a way for the visitor to get more information. If your Call to Action button takes the visitor to a different page, website or file make sure that there are additional calls to action there such as an email or phone number. You want to give the visitor information to make a decision and a way to connect with your business or nonprofit. Remember, a website is open 24 hours a day for 365 days a year so make sure there is a way to get a quick response to the person asking.

Once the visitor to your website has started the conversation and enabled their Call To Action it’s your turn to continue the conversation. Make sure your call to action is received and answered immediately. The visitor may be making a choice and would prefer not to wait. For example, if you have your email as a CTA make sure that you check your email often and respond to all emails.

On my website the first CTA button is just below my picture and welcome message. Throughout my business website I have many buttons that read - Let’s Talk. Then there is a whole page devoted to Work with Me.

When someone lands on your webpage they should clearly see who and what your business or nonprofit is have clearly stated next steps in becoming a member, client or have a way to donate, if a nonprofit.

May Web Design, LLC refreshes and creates affordable websites that enable clients to take ownership and update themselves on a Squarespace platform. I enjoy helping clients increase customer engagement with a website and improve their overall web presence. The most important part of my business is that when I have completed and reviewed the website with a client, I teach the client how to update their website so that they can keep it fresh and new. A website offers a 24/7 welcome to prospective members, showing them what your business or organization has accomplished and what you plan to do. If built correctly it should welcome people to the site and show them around in a comfortable way.
