A quick start guide to adding perfect pictures to a Squarespace website

Choosing the best images to add to your website is as important as font style, colors, and content on your website. A website is a 24/7 welcome for a visitor to your website. You will not be there to welcome every visitor so you want the website to look fresh, new, and inviting.

It’s always important to make sure that images used on your website are owned by you.

Knowing what you want on your website is very important. Look at websites that you like and websites that are similar to your own to get ideas. Think about what styles you like, colors, and pictures. What kind of pictures reflect your image and branding?

  • Are there certain colors to use?

  • Do you want your images in color, black and white, or a mixture of the two?

  • Would you like beach, forest, or dessert scenery?

How do I get pictures?

  • Use pictures you own.

Go through pictures that you currently own or take some new pictures. Upload your own pictures into Squarespace to crop and edit images.

  • Stock images from Squarespace - Unsplash and Getty Images

There are free pictures and pictures available for a small fee. Pictures used through the Squarespace website are quality images. Make sure to read the Terms and Conditions of Unsplash and Getty Images.

Creating a theme for your website and adding a cohesive look is important to bring in visitors and keep them on your website. Squarespace has a great Video Series: All About Images that discusses images, formatting, and including images throughout your Squarespace website.

Either by using your own images or stock photos make sure that your images reflect your brand. Keep your website new and fresh so visitors will read the content as much as looking at the images. Good luck!
