5 Quick Tips and Tricks for Squarespace 7.1

Quick tips and tricks can save time when designing or updating a website. I found a few that I love and want to pass on to others. These are time saving tools that I was able to quickly use and will continue to use in my own website and when designing websites.

1.     Quickly go to Home navigation

When you are in a subpage, you can double click the navigation arrow in the top left-hand corner sidebar menu and quickly go Home. I was so happy to have found this quick tip to get to the Home navigation screen quickly. When building or updating a website you click in and out of the subpages numerous times and this little trick gets you to the Home navigation menu much faster.

2.      Add an Announcement Bar

You can display a message on a large bar across the top of your website. This is visible on all devices. It is nice to display important messages, sales, or any information you want announced to the person looking at your website.

Home > Marketing > Announcement Bar

3.      Paste text as plain text

As you develop a website much of the written content is copy and pasted to text boxes. When copying content from an outside source there may be embedded text formatting. To elevate any issues you may have, the easiest way to paste information is to copy from your outside source and click the clipboard icon (Paste as Plain text button) to paste the text into your website without additional formatting.

4.     Add a Browser Icon, also called a Favicon

This icon appears in the browser tab before your website name and when a page is bookmarked. A Browser Icon or Favicon is so easy to add to Squarespace and makes your website look professional. It is an effortless way to get your brand out there.

Home > Design > Browser Icon

5.     Login with Escape Key

Whenever you are viewing your official website (ex. www.maywebdesign.com) where you have enabled Login with Escape Key you can login to the edit mode of Squarespace by just pressing the Escape key, or ESC. When you are already in your Squarespace account site you have enabled for Login with Escape Key, you can shrink or expand the site’s frame by pressing the Escape key, or ESC.

Home > Settings > Advanced > Escape Key (ESC)

It is always nice to reduce clicks and keystrokes saving you time when developing or updating a website.

I hope these tools help you as you design and update websites. The fun is watching something that you have worked on really come to life. With anything, the hard work pays off once you see the finished product.
