How do I get started with a website in 2024?

JUST START

Each year I write a blog about getting started with a website. Last year I wrote:
How do I get started with a Small Business website in 2023?
How do I get started with a website for a Nonprofit Organization in 2023?

I discuss the great point of having a website and having one location to house your information, highlight what you do and, add a commerce section.

One of the first things I tell potential clients is that wherever they are in their journey - just start. I often remind my clients of this as we are going through the process of designing a website. A website is supposed to grow and change with you. I love looking through websites I created years ago and seeing where they are now. Some took the exact path they set out to while others found a different and better path they never imagined. Wherever your business or organization takes you, your website should easily grow and change to meet those needs.

Jump in with both feet and get started.

I am honored to create a website for a small business or nonprofit organization. Speaking to so many people that are passionate about their work is amazing in and of itself. Helping them to create a website that will be able to change and grow with them is something I love to do.

Many people don’t want to start building a website until they meet certain goals and/or have everything in order. I think having an established website that you can build on is the perfect way to get your name out there and get started. Have a one page website that you slowly build on. Get your SEO established. Go for it! You have a plan and a vision - get the ball rolling now.

By simply updating a website with recent pictures of events and adding them to current and upcoming events could help people find out what you have done and what you will do in the future.

A website is a wonderful place to keep current and past information for nonprofit organizations and small businesses. Your website should be working 24/7.  The website should flow like someone welcoming you and guiding you through the website.

·       Build a homepage to welcome clients and members, both potential and established.

·       Include pictures and/or videos

·       Build a contact list for newsletters.

·       Link to your social media sites.

·       Include commerce to sell online.

·       Showcase the good that is done in the community. (Create a Donate button for nonprofits.)

One of the biggest hurdles I have experienced with nonprofit organizations and small businesses is that a website and the yearly maintenance are too expensive. May Web Design, LLC creates affordable websites that enable clients to take ownership and update themselves on a Squarespace platform. I enjoy helping clients increase engagement with a website and improve their overall web presence. The most important part of my business is that when I have completed and reviewed the website with a client, I teach the client how to update their website so that they can keep it fresh and new. A website offers a 24/7 welcome to prospective and established people, showing them what your business or organization has accomplished and what you plan to do. If built correctly it should welcome people to the site and show them around in a comfortable way.

If you are interested in discussing the needs of a website for your business or nonprofit organization, contact May Web Design, LLC. Starting out with a basic brochure website may be all that your business or organization needs. Your website should grow with you and change as needed.

I work with my clients so that I may design the website they envision and, most importantly, teach them how to update their website to keep the information fresh and new. While you are busy building your small business or organization, I can create a website to grow with your dreams. I have a list of services on my website as well as a portfolio of my websites and testimonials from past clients. Let’s get started.
